Construction Progress Update - December

Demolition of the Jesuit Residence has phased into active construction throughout the building.  The small rooms that once housed sixty Jesuits are being reconstituted into the sixteen classrooms, visual arts center, multiple office suites and meeting rooms that the Academic Center will house. As the renovations are being carried out from the fifth floor down, most of the obvious progress is taking place on those upper floors. The classrooms and the art facilities on the fourth and fifth floor have been framed and sheetrock has been applied. Late October saw the installation of replacement windows throughout the entire building. All through the Academic Center, new duct work has been fitted along with the piping that will comprise the sprinkler system.

The new staircase at the west end of the Center has become the main artery for workers, equipment and supplies moving through the building. The Residence’s main staircase, located in the center of the building, has been removed and an elevator shaft has been erected in its place. A second stairwell will be raised between the Academic Center and the Kelly Fieldhouse at the southeast end.

Outside of the future Academic Center, the stage and the mechanical systems have been removed from the multi-purpose room. The second floor corridor that runs adjacent to the multi-purpose room’s east wall has been closed down so that renovations may commence in the former Art Studio (soon to be the Band Room). The steel support beams for the mezzanine level of the Dining Hall are being installed and the crews are progressing towards the installation of multiple, two and a half story windows on the room’s west wall.

So far the project remains on pace for its slated completion date of this September and even though inclement weather will soon be upon us, the project should not be slowed as it is already under roof.
